Warsaw, 27 November, 2019 — Amazon today confirmed its plans for a 210,000-square-meter fulfillment center in Gliwice. The investment in Poland follows growing customer demand across Europe and will bring over 1 000 new permanent jobs for people in the region.
“This year is very important for our operations in Poland – earlier this month we officially opened 2 new Fulfillment Centers – in Pawlikowice near Łódź and in Okmiany and today we are happy to announce our new investment in Silesia. We’re excited to become a member of the Gliwice community and create many more permanent jobs in the region, all offering competitive wages, comprehensive benefits and broad career development opportunities in our fast-growing global organization,” said Steven Harman, VP of Amazon’s Operations in Continental Europe.
At the facility, Amazon employees will pick, pack and ship small items such as books, electronics and consumer goods to customers. Associates will work alongside innovative technologies, including Amazon Robotics, which will be used on a daily basis to fulfill customer orders. The robots slide under a tower of shelves where products are stowed, lift it and move it through the fulfilment center, helping speed up order processing time and enabling for a better associate and customer experience.
“Poland was the first country in Europe where we launched Amazon Robotics technology, back in September 2015. The introduction of Amazon Robotics is just one example of our commitment to innovation in logistics on behalf of our associates and our customers’, said Marian Sepesi, Regional Director at Amazon.
He added: “This new team will play a crucial role in delivering a first rate level of service for our customers across Europe, and we are delighted to expand our operations in Poland. We look forward to serving as a catalyst for new growth in the area by working with local businesses and collaborating with national and local authorities.”
Amazon has just started recruiting for a range of new roles, including operations managers, engineers, HR and IT specialists. People interested in applying should visit www.amazon.jobs/gliwice
All Amazon employees in Gliwice will receive a very attractive salary, benefits package including free transportation on selected routes, private health care and life insurance. “We are delighted that Amazon decided to invest in Gliwice. It confirms our city and the region are very attractive for investors” - said Jakub Chełstowski, the Marshall od Silesia Voivodship.
Panattoni Europe has been chosen as the developer for the investment.
“The newest Panattoni Europe investment for Amazon is exceptional in all areas. The building has record surface at the European scale – 210,000 sqm and four floors implemented with technology Amazon Robotics. This project was a positive challenge for us from an organizational perspective and I believe we proved once again that we are the right partner to deliver even the most complex projects”- said Robert Dobrzycki, Chief Executive Officer Europe, Panattoni Europe.
