“I’ve been very lucky to have diverse opportunities working with smart people and very inspiring managers. “I’m trying to be the enabler - finding the middle ground on how to prioritize certain projects. Everything we do is about the customer at the end of the day and I prioritize based on that.”
Esra began her career with PWC in transactions services and corporate finance before joining the Strategy and Investor Relations teams at Turkcell, a leading Telecom company in Turkey. After an MBA at INSEAD, she joined the Private Brands team at Amazon, where she worked on building a new business area and also developing a team.
Later roles meant she had to improve the customer experience for our customers, collaborating with diverse internal teams including different business areas, like our legal service. Esra then played in developing our Turkish website. “It was super emotional because it’s my country. I was responsible for so many things: Defining the entire customer experience, managing public policy, recruiting, choosing a building and so on.”
“Diversity is crucial. It brings challenges, because people have different backgrounds,” she says. “Amazon offers so many opportunities. You can change roles and try different things. You shouldn’t be afraid to get out of your comfort zone, I’ve changed jobs three times in five years.”
Over 2,000 Amazonians are located at our European HQ in Luxembourg, where Esra is based. “I don’t feel myself as a foreigner here. I enjoy the quality of life, and the pace of the country. The nature is amazingly beautiful and I feel I’m evolving in a strong international environment with people from several different countries and backgrounds, and this is what I truly enjoy.”
