In 2015, Amazon created more permanent jobs in Europe than ever before – a record 10,000. Across many different countries, Amazon now employs over 65,000 people, helping to provide a big boost to the European economy. Amazon even offers guided tours of our fulfilment centres so anyone can see for themselves how people working at Amazon are innovating on behalf of customers and delivering for them every day.
The number of sites offering these tours continues to grow, with nearly 15,000 people welcomed at 12 locations across Europe in the year of 2016.
During the tour, visitors will have the chance to take a close look at the daily job of employees at work, as well as observing many of the key processes and technologies of the fulfilment centre, from picking – retrieving ordered items from the shelves – to packing, where items are carefully parcelled up in Amazon’s famous brown boxes before being sent on their way to customers.
Friends and family take the inaugural tour
The Staffordshire site at Rugeley in the UK opened its doors to visitors for the first time on February 28, 2015, welcoming more than 150 friends and family of employees working there, as well as representatives from the local council and nearby Chancel Primary School. For many of them it was a unique opportunity to gain a better idea of the roles their loved ones carry out in the fulfilment centre on a daily basis.
Anyone over the age of six who is curious to discover first-hand what happens in Amazon’s fulfilment centres can register for one of these special tours by clicking on the button below. Apart from the UK, we also offer tours in other European countries, such as France, Germany, Italy, Poland and Spain.
