Amazon Freight Europe has launched its Less-Than-Truckload (LTL) programme in Germany, providing Amazon vendors and sellers with a new, more flexible shipping option. This latest expansion builds on the success of the LTL programme in the UK, where Amazon has achieved 100% on-time pickup and 97% of shipments delivered within three days.

Through the German LTL service, businesses can now ship pallets directly to our fulfilment centres (FCs), rather than booking entire truckloads. This helps optimise transportation capacity and reduces the environmental impact of shipments.

The launch of our LTL programme in Germany is a significant milestone in our mission to become the most trusted freight provider for shippers around the globe. By opening our network to external businesses, we're giving our vendors and sellers more choice and control over their logistics, while driving greater efficiency throughout the supply chain.

What is LTL shipping?

LTL shipping is a freight transportation method where multiple shippers' goods are consolidated into a single truck. Instead of paying for an entire truckload, businesses only pay for the space their shipment occupies, allowing for more efficient use of truck capacity and reduced environmental impact.

Shippers using the Amazon Freight LTL programme can book their shipments online, specifying the origin, destination, weight, and dimensions of their pallets. Amazon Freight then combines these shipments with freight from other businesses heading in similar directions to maximise trailer space and efficiency. The consolidated freight is then transported to an Amazon FC, where it may be sorted and transferred to another truck for final delivery.

What are the Benefits of LTL shipping for businesses?

  • Flexibility: LTL allows businesses to ship smaller quantities of freight without the expense of booking an entire truck.
  • Cost savings: Shippers benefit from competitive pricing structures, including spot rates and contracted rates negotiated directly with carriers.
  • Scalability: LTL shipping accommodates changes in shipping volumes, allowing businesses to scale their logistics operations efficiently.
  • Sustainability: LTL consolidation helps reduce environmental impact by optimising vehicle capacity and lowering carbon emissions per unit of freight.

The launch of our LTL programme in Germany gives Amazon vendors and sellers more flexibility and cost-effective shipping options. By leveraging the power of consolidation, we're helping businesses improve their logistics efficiency and reduce their environmental footprint.
