“Amazon has been supporting Polish customers and selling partners across our different European stores for many years, but the next step is to bring a full consumer retail offering to Poland and we are making those plans now,” said Alex Ootes, Vice President EU Expansion at Amazon. “We are excited to empower small Polish businesses through Amazon and are investing in tools and services to help them grow. We’re optimistic that by focusing on the things we believe customers value the most – low prices, vast selection, and fast delivery – over time, we will earn the trust of customers in Poland.”
Amazon has been operating in Poland since 2014 and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce recently announced that Amazon is the country’s largest U.S. employer and the third-largest American investor.
Amazon has created over 18,000 permanent jobs in nine modern fulfillment centers in Sady (near Poznan), Sosnowiec, Kolbaskowo (near Szczecin), two facilities in Bielany Wroclawskie, Pawlikowice (near Lodz), Lodz, Okmiany (near Boleslawiec) and Gliwice, alongside an Amazon Web Services office in Warsaw and a Development Centre in Gdansk, that delivers innovative solutions powering Amazon products and services around the world, including making Alexa speak.
The tenth Fulfillment Center in Swiebodzin will be opened in 2021, adding more than 1,000 new jobs to Amazon’s existing network in Poland. Since the start of the pandemic, right across the Amazon business, the company has ensured that the safety of employees is a top priority, investing over $10 billion so far on safety measures, including social distancing, temperature checks, masks, enhanced cleaning and gloves.
In Poland alone, Amazon has provided its employees with more than 8 million pairs of gloves, more than 2 million face-masks, more than 24 million units of disinfectant wipes and more than 33 million units of hand disinfectant as well as making over 150 significant process changes at sites to keep people safe.
