Amazon in Poland
Amazon has been operating in Poland since 2014 and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce recently announced that Amazon is the country’s largest U.S. employer and the third-largest American investor. Amazon has created over 18,000 permanent jobs in nine modern fulfilment centres in Sady (near Poznan), Sosnowiec, Kolbaskowo (near Szczecin), two facilities in Bielany Wroclawskie, Pawlikowice (near Lodz), Lodz, Okmiany (near Boleslawiec) and Gliwice, alongside an Amazon Web Services office in Warsaw and a Development Centre in Gdansk, that delivers innovative solutions powering Amazon products and services around the world, including making Alexa speak. The tenth Fulfilment Centre in Swiebodzin will be opened in 2021, adding more than 1,000 new jobs to Amazon’s existing network in Poland. Since the start of the pandemic, right across the Amazon business, the company has ensured that the safety of employees is a top priority, investing over $11.5 billion in 2020 on on COVID-related initiatives. This includes an investment of over $1.2 billion on measures like temperature checks, masks, gloves, enhanced cleaning and sanitation, testing and more. In Poland alone, Amazon has provided its employees with more than 19.5 million pairs of gloves, more than 7.2 million units of facemasks, 37.1 million units of disinfectant wipes and 141.3 million units of hand disinfectant as well as making over 150 significant process changes at sites to keep people safe.
Amazon.pl offers growth opportunities for Polish businesses – big and small
With the launch of Amazon.pl, it will be easier for Polish businesses to sell their products on Amazon, reach more customers and expand. Amazon has invested billions of dollars in infrastructure and technical services that help small and medium-sized businesses reach new customers across Poland and around the world, including simple listing tools that support all eight European Amazon stores, enabling easy expansion within Europe, as well as 24/7 online Selling Partner support, open and transparent selling conditions and pricing, and reports and analytics tools to help them grow. As a result of this investment there are now 1.7 million small and medium-sized businesses around the world selling in Amazon’s stores, with more than 200,000 entrepreneurs worldwide who surpassed $100,000 in sales on Amazon in 2019.
“Today, thousands of European and local selling partners are offering their products on Amazon.pl and on our other Amazon stores across Europe, as well as in the US. We are excited for our international customers to experience and enjoy this Polish selection and help grow these businesses with every purchase they make”, says Alex Ootes. “With FBA, our Polish selling partners can simply list their products once and they can then be sold across all of our eight European stores. Small and medium sized companies selling in Amazon stores have created an estimate 1.6 million jobs worldwide and we hope to see Polish companies prosper in the same way. It is for this reason that we are launching with a specific promotion for our selling partners, reducing referral fees for 12 months.”
Paweł Szymański, CEO of Krosno Glass S.A, a Polish glass business says, “Amazon enabled us to virtually enter Europe very quickly, which allowed us to achieve a sales scale that would have been difficult to achieve otherwise. We were able to nearly triple our sales in 2020, despite the pandemic, just by working with Amazon. Amazon is the largest e-commerce channel we use. It is also a marketplace that allows us to use logistics very efficiently and deliver products to customers quickly. As for the Amazon tools we use, there are several. First of all, it is a convenient and efficient logistics tool called FBA (Fulfilment by Amazon), but also automatic invoicing, Amazon Brand Registry and tools that allow us to promote our products."
Marek Bal, the owner of Kratki.pl, a Polish company producing high-quality fireplaces, bio-fireplaces and garden heaters, said: “In just a few years, from a small company employing a dozen or so people, we have become the leader in the fireplace market in Poland, as well as a significant manufacturer across Europe. Starting a cooperation with Amazon was a bull's-eye. In addition to the very positive impact it has had on the company's income, I also appreciate that, just like us, Amazon is constantly changing and adapting to the needs of customers. I am convinced that thanks to fruitful cooperation, we will be able to constantly increase sales and create a warm atmosphere for customers worldwide. I definitely recommend using Amazon to Polish entrepreneurs.”
