Customer safety has always been a top priority for us, so we are pleased to be one of the founding signatories to a new European Memorandum of Understanding on Online Product Safety.
We fully support the commitments in the European Commission’s memo, which closely mirror the kind of protections we already provide to our customers when they shop with sellers on Amazon.
The memo ensures all signatories have strong processes in place proactively to remove dangerous items from sale, for example, once they are notified on official recall websites, such as the EU’s RAPEX system. The twelve agreed areas of focus support our own longstanding commitment to improve the safety of our customers, going beyond existing legislation.
Full details about the commitments within the MoU can be found here .
On behalf of Amazon, our Director, EU Public Policy, James Waterworth, signed the memo alongside European Commissioner Jourova in Brussels today.
