Vice-President of the European Parliament Fabio Massimo Castaldo inaugurated the Amazon Academy dedicated this year to the "Made in Italy", with politicians and entrepreneurs from various parts of Italy.

“Amazon landed in Italy back in 2010. We are an Italian company with Italian employees investing in Italian business'', said Mariangela Marseglia, VVice-President and Country Manager of Amazon.it and Amazon.es during her keynote speech on Amazon in Italy.

Amazon focuses on the growth of small and medium businesses since its launch in Italy. More than 12,000 of Italian-based small and medium businesses sell on Amazon and that number has increased by +20% in 2018.

Italian SMBs achieved export sales of over €500 million in 2018, a growing path of more than 50% year on year.

“For years Amazon has provided support to small and medium-sized businesses to help them increase their digital skills, enabling them to increase sales, boost exports and create local jobs”, added Marseglia.

Member of European Parliament Tiziana Beghin responded to Mariangela’s keynote highlighting the importance of a strong cooperation between the big companies and the little ones.

“Le grandi aziende non sono per forza in contrasto con le piccole imprese, ma possono coesistere e cooperare", declared Tiziana Beghin during her speech on export rules for international trade.

Carlo Ferro, President of ICE Agenzia - ITA (Italian Trade Agency) then shared insights on the Italian Trade Agency’s partnership with Amazon during a fireside chat. “This partnership is very important as it is the core of the strategy of the Italian trade agency which aims to be more focused on digital and on SMEs, and clearly the e-commerce is an incredible channel for SMEs to increase their exports", said ITA President.

A panel discussion on how to better support Italian entrepreneurs and boost their sales through the digital market followed.

“We need to foster quality and to create a fiscal pact”, said Member of the European Parliament Pierfrancesco Majorino.

This session included Members of the European Parliament Marco Zullo and Pierfranscesco Majorino, Simona Maria Bandiera, owner of LOVEDOORMAT, a company selling doormats and decoration items for home, Stefano da Empoli, President of I-Com, Institute for Competitiveness and Daniele Cappato, Head of Seller Services – Consumables of Amazon in Italy.

The conference ended by the presentation of nine “Made in Italy” entrepreneurs, hosted by Alessandro Panza. Among them, Italian author Federico Maria Rivalta, who works with Amazon Publishing services. During the cocktail reception, all nine joined a specially-created Italian market featuring a “fashion” pop up store including Dalle Piane Cashmere, Chicca Borse handbags and Lucchetta 1953 jewels, a “culinary” area with Sicilian delicacies by Rarezze, Oilalà organic oil and Emilia Food Love traditional products from Emilia-Romagna region, plus a “design” corner with Callea Design and LOVEDOORMAT.
