Our commitment to Sweden is evidenced not only by the vast selection available to customers with Prime, but also by the 500+ permanent employees we've welcomed to our team over the years.
Investing in Swedish entrepreneurship
At the core of our mission is a promise to invest in the success of entrepreneurs selling in our store. This investment goes beyond financials; it's a belief in the entrepreneurial spirit that is defined across Sweden. The success of these businesses mirrors the success of our customers, who benefit from the diverse array of products on offer. Reflecting our commitment, we have invested over €20 billion since 2020 in the European region to enhance logistics, tools, services, programmes, and training to support the success of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) selling on Amazon.
The progress of Swedish SMEs
Swedish SMEs have been integral to our story. With over 1,000 Swedish SMEs selling on Amazon.se, we've seen them reach formidable heights, recording over SEK 1.7 billion (over €150 million) in export sales. In 2022 alone, about 400 Swedish SMEs surpassed SEK 100,000 (over €8,000) in sales, with over 50 achieving this milestone for the first time. Collaboratively, the SMEs selling on Amazon.se have created over 2,000 jobs to date, and they continue to propel economic growth.
Sustainability and renewable energy initiatives
Our latest expansion investment features 37 new renewable energy projects in Europe. One of these wind energy projects in Sweden, a wind farm in Lyckås (our fifth wind farm in the country), will increase our renewable energy capacity in Sweden to 786 MW. These projects underscore our commitment to driving our operations with 100% renewable energy by 2025.
Our renewable energy projects have generated approximately €2.4 billion in investments and added over €723 million to Europe's GDP between 2014 and 2022. In Sweden, these projects have led to an estimated investment of 1 billion SEK (over €88 million) and contributed more than 2.8 billion SEK (over €240 million) to the nation's GDP. They have also created over 600 local full-time positions, demonstrating our economic impact.
