To support people in need across Luxembourg this holiday season, last week members of Amazon’s Global Procurement Organization (GPO) joined forces with students and staff from St George’s International School in Luxembourg.

More than 170 volunteers—Amazon employees, students and staff—packed over 800 boxes of essential supplies, which were distributed to five local non-profit organizations: Croix Rouge Luxembourg, Stroossenenglen, Hellef Um Teller, Serve The City, and LUkraine.

Amazon contributed items donated by GPO team members and other employees at our European HQ in Luxembourg, while St George’s students contributed items collected during a school-wide donation drive. Volunteers assembled 300 shoe boxes containing toiletries, toys, games and clothes and an additional 500 boxes containing non-perishable food and hygiene products.

The collaboration was part of Amazon’s "Every Plate Matters" campaign, which runs from October 1 to December 31, 2024. As part of the campaign, GPO is partnering with 3,000 employees, 2,000 suppliers, 580 non-profits, and hundreds of community partners to address food and hygiene insecurity in 30 local communities. The donations made through this event will help almost 3,000 people, or approximately 2% of the population in need according to STATEC, Luxembourg’s national statistics agency.

In addition to the boxes, Amazon announced a cash donation of €5,000 to each of the participating charities to support their efforts for the community.

At Amazon, we believe in the power of collaboration with suppliers, employees and local partners such as schools to make a meaningful difference in communities where we operate” said Virginie Vast, Head of Community Impact for Amazon’s Global Procurement Organization. “Today’s event in partnership with St George’s is a prime example of how we can amplify our impact by working together to make a difference, one meal at a time. We’re not just providing immediate relief to thousands of people in need – we’re supporting the ongoing efforts of local non-profit organisations to combat poverty and improve lives.”

Students Carolina (Year 13) and Amanda (Year 12), members of the St George’s Student Parliament, shared their enthusiasm: “Our whole school came together for this amazing charity project in partnership with Amazon Global Procurement Community Impact. Student leaders from both Primary and Secondary took the lead and we’re hoping it will make a real impact through our contributions."
