Amazon Web Services (AWS) and the University of Luxembourg have signed a Memorandum of understanding (MoU) to enhance education through the use of cutting-edge cloud technology. The MoU aims to strengthen the collaboration in cloud computing, focusing on skills development, research, and artificial intelligence (AI) integration.
Signed by Kathryn Xistris, AWS Managing Director for Public Sector EMEA and LATAM, and Professor Marie-Hélène Jobin, Vice-Rector for Partnerships and International Relations, University of Luxembourg, the MoU demonstrates how technology can transform educational institutions.
University of Luxembourg provides world-class education and conducts advanced research in the fields of IT, security, reliability, and trust. The combination of AWS’s technological expertise with the University of Luxembourg’s academic vision will create a transformative path for the future of learning.
“Our collaboration with AWS focuses on innovative technologies that benefit students, researchers, and, ultimately, the society. It is a perfect example of the positive impact that public and private partnerships can bring to Luxembourg and Europe,” said Marie-Hélène Jobin, Vice Rector for Partnerships and International Relations of the University of Luxembourg.
Transforming educational experiences
A key solution already implemented by the University of Luxembourg is Lecture. Powered by AWS and developed by EDT&Partners, an AWS Partner and a global EdTech consulting firm, this open-source tool uses AI integration to improve teaching and learning experiences. Leveraging the AI for Teaching & Learning Framework on AWS, Lecture breaks traditional academic boundaries. Educators can now use generative AI to create adaptive learning paths, evaluate assessments, translate documents, and produce creative assets. The seamless integration with existing learning management systems makes knowledge transfer more accessible and efficient.
“Lecture is more than an off-the-shelf tool. It is a flexible solution that uses AI to make learning more engaging and personalized. AWS’s and EDT&Partners’ expertise in education technology as well as their focus on customer’s needs were instrumental in shaping this successful adoption at the University of Luxembourg. I cannot wait to see what other great projects we can collaborate on in the future,” said Eric Tschirhart, Full Professor of Physiology, University of Luxembourg.

22 years of Amazon in Luxembourg
AWS and its parent company, Amazon, have been supporting the development of education and business in Luxembourg for more than 20 years. Established as Amazon’s European headquarters in 2003, Luxembourg has played an important role in both the regional and international operations. With more than 4,250 employees across seven corporate offices in Luxembourg City, Amazon is one of the country’s largest employers. Since 2010, Amazon has invested over €9 billion, with a cumulative contribution of over €3.5 billion to Luxembourg’s GDP. Amazon’s activities in Luxembourg are part of its broader activities in Europe, where the company has invested over €250 billion since 2010 and is currently employing more than 225,000 people across the continent.

Looking ahead
This MoU represents more than a technological alliance. It also highlights our dedication to preparing students for an increasingly digital and AI-driven world. By providing cutting-edge tools and fostering a culture of continuous learning, AWS and the University of Luxembourg are empowering the next generation of innovators and problem-solvers. AWS is helping the University of Luxembourg and other educational institutions train and upskill the workforce, accelerate research, and use AI and data for innovation, with the ultimate goal of building better societies for all.
